Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGARTH RUSTON After a valiant fight Dad passed away Monday, August 1, 2005 at Riverview Health Centre. Dad was predeceased by his loving wife Mavis in 1991. Survived by daughter Vicki McLarty (Brian), granddaughters, Jenny and Michelle; daughter Gaye-Lynn Baker (Grant), grandsons, David, Donald and granddaughter Allyson; son Darryl Ruston (Dianne) and grandsons, Kristopher and Matthew. Dad was born August 14, 1931 in Weyburn, SK moving to Winnipeg with his family when he was 16. Dad met his soul mate Mavis at Young People's United. They were married August 3, 1956. Together they raised three children with many memories and special friendships being made at their home on Beaverbend Crescent. Dad and Mom were longtime members of Silver Heights United Church and sang together for many years with the church choir. Early years working at Manitoba Hydro resulted in many lifetime friendships that Mom and Dad treasured. After Mom passed away Dad filled his time as a volunteer at Grace Hospital working in the Gift Shop, Muffin Shop and as a key organizer of the annual Garage and Book Sales. Dad's volunteerism roots were planted many years earlier as he quietly helped many relatives, friends and neighbours by providing taxi service to appointments, preparing income tax returns and being a supportive friend. Dad loved to travel as evidenced by his year round tan. His last trip held special memories as it was spent in Mexico with his daughter Gaye and her family. Dad was blessed with a green thumb. Visitors to our family home would marvel at his flower gardens that he lovingly tended to. This passion was carried over to his apartment at the Courts of St. James and then to his hospital rooms as he made sure all his flowers and plants were well cared for. The family wishes to extend sincere appreciation to all the health professionals that cared for Dad at the Health Science Centre, Misericordia Hospital (Cedar Grove) and Riverview Health Centre (3 East). A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 4 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Interment and reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Dad's memory to the Grace Hospital Foundation, 300 Booth Dr., Winnipeg, MB R3J 3M7. Dancing together again. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE 885-9715 Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolence at www.chapellawn.mb.ca.
