GEORGE BROMWELL It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of George on Tuesday, August 2, 2005, at the age of 91, after a brief illness. He was predeceased by Helen, his loving wife of 64 years; and his brother Jack. George will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Val McDonald (Dennis), Judie Davies (Al); grandchildren, Andrew (Karen), Marcia (Jack), Michelle, Shane (Kati), Shelley (Roni); great-grandchildren, Ryan, Caitlin, Hayley, Gavin, Samson, Reilly, Tyler; and by his brother Ted (Joyce). Dad lived his whole life in Norwood, living until his recent illness in the family home he built in 1956. During his early years he took great pride in his rowing and track and field accomplishments. Married in 1939, after meeting his wife to be Helen at a dance, and being swept off his feet , George and Helen together shared many close friends and wonderful trips, largely through their association with the Shrine. An enthusiastic builder, Dad built a summer cottage at Barrier Bay where relatives, friends and grandchildren spent many happy times. The cottage was his pride and joy , also providing an excuse for him to build several boats in the garage during cold winter months. The building did not end there however. At age 90 he built two go carts for his great-grandchildren to play on. Starting initially as a line man with Winnipeg Electric, Dad had a long and successful career finishing as a supervisor with Manitoba Hydro. One of his proudest accomplishments was his role in providing power for the Kenricia Diamond Mine. A certificate George received for 65 years of loyal and faithful membership in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers was one of his many awards for professional and community service. Dad was a man of integrity who won the trust and respect of family, friends and associates. A member of the Khartum Temple of the Shrine and an active member of the Patrol Unit, George was also a long time member of the Masonic Lodge, The Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and the Past Masters Association. The family wishes to express our sincere thanks to the Home Care nurses and attendants who gave George such remarkable care and consideration during his last months at home. The family would like to thank Dr. G. P. Wollner for his many dedicated years of care. Thank you as well to the staff on E5 at the St. Boniface Hospital for providing comfort care and family support during the past two weeks. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 6 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (South of the Royal Canadian Mint). Interment will take place in Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the reception centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The St. Boniface Hospital and Research Foundation, 409 Tache Ave., Room D1003, R2H 2A6. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. 982-7550
