Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCATHERINE JESSIE MCEWEN (nee INKSTER) Peacefully in her sleep, on August 3, 2005, Catherine passed away at the age of 87. Catherine will be sadly missed by Arnold, her loving husband of 63 years; sons, Gary (Barbara), Ken, Doug (Judy), Stewart (Lynne); and by her grandchildren, David, Allison, Steven and Sarah; sister Dorothy Tatchell and family (Kelowna, BC); brother George Inkster and family (Winnipeg). She was predeceased by infant brother Gordon and eldest brother Dave. Catherine (Kay) was born in Winnipeg on March 2, 1918. She lived her entire life in East Kildonan (some 52 years on Hazel Dell Avenue) and most recently at Kildonan Personal Care Centre in North Kildonan. Kay spent her early years growing up on Strathcona Street and Helmsdale Avenue. She loved Highland Dancing and speed skating. She worked as a comptometer operator with Imperial Oil Limited until she met the man of her life Arnie. They were married on March 21, 1942. Her fondest memories were of her early married years in Chatham, NB, while Arnie served with the RCAF; their country drives to Stonewall visiting friends and family and the many happy years on Hazel Dell raising her four boys. She also enjoyed her volunteer work with the WA/UCW at John Black Memorial United Church in particular with her Group VI friends of some 40 years. An avid five-pin bowler, Kay fondly recalled her fun times at Cooper-Mosienko Lanes. The family extends sincere appreciation to Jack and all the staff at the Kildonan Personal Care Centre and to the health team on the third floor at Concordia Hospital - especially nurse Frances. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at John Black Memorial United Church, Henderson Highway and Roberta Avenue, East Kildonan, on Tuesday, August 9 at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Jim Hatherly officiating. Arrangements entrusted to MacKenzie Funeral Home.
