Date of Passing: Jul 16, 2005
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM MCGOWAN It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our wonderful father and grandfather, Bill, who died July 16, 2005 at Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock, BC, with family at his side. He was 94. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years, Nan in July 2003; by his parents, Mae and Lester Mehlman; and by his brothers, Joe and Jimmy. He is survived by his daughter Lesley (Gary); son Grant (Valerie); and his cherished grandchildren, Scott, Lara, Paul and Hayley all from British Columbia. Born in Glasgow, Winnipeg was his home from age 10. Bill was a member of the Fort Garry Light Horse and served as an Army Captain in Canada and the United Kingdom during the Second World War. After the war, he returned to his career with Imperial Oil, which moved him from Winnipeg to Dauphin, Brandon, Virden, Edmonton and back to Winnipeg. He retired in 1975, after 42 years with the company. Bill enjoyed his leisure time in the woodworking shop at Appleton Estates, making wonderful treasures for his grandchildren and in his vegetable garden at their cottage at Ingolf, ON. Bill will always be remembered for his generosity, his witty comments and the twinkle in his eyes as he recounted his endless stories and jokes. Bill and Nan left us with the fondest memories of summer and winter vacations at Ingolf.
