Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBRUCE JOSEPH KOMUS After a short illness on August 3, 2005, at the Grace Hospital, Bruce Joseph Komus passed away at the age of 56. Bruce will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 33 years, Linda (nee Peterson); and his three sons, Mark, Matthew and Alastair; his father Joseph Komus; and siblings, David (Sandra), George and Marilyn (Ken) Coupland; his brothers-in-law, Robert (Adele) Peterson, Donald (Joan) Peterson of Ottawa, Raymond Peterson of Vancouver, Ross (Lenza) Peterson of Los Angeles and Jim (Luella) Stephens. Many other relatives, friends and coworkers will miss his quiet ways, not to mention his sense of humour and love of puns. He was predeceased by his mother Jean Komus in 1995. Bruce was born in Winnipeg on March 16, 1949. He graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1971. Bruce worked with the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency for 32 years. Bruce had a love for trains. He enjoyed constructing models, working on his layout, reading about and discussing anything train related. Planning and designing a layout was a frequent activity. Bruce was a quiet family man who loved sharing the outdoors and doing many activities with his sons. He coached various soccer teams that his sons were involved with in their younger years. He always stressed fairness and sportsmanship. One evening a week turned into over 15 years of commitment to the Scouting community. He worked with many Beavers, Cubs and Scouts and attended numerous camps. Bruce was extremely proud of his sons, not just in their achievements but in the men that they have become. He loved them a great deal. Linda and Bruce were married on May 20, 1972. Bruce was a loving husband who was there for Linda in the good times and the difficult. His strong support and love will be missed. Bruce's family would like to thank the nurses and staff on the 3rd and 4th floors, especially Susan, Ryan and Elaine. Their professionalism, concern and compassion for Bruce and his family will not be forgotten. Pastor Carol Janke of Messiah has been a source of strength and assistance both to Bruce and his family during this difficult time. She will lead a celebration of Bruce's life on Monday, August 8 at 1:00 p.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church, 400 Rouge Rd. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Bruce's memory to the Messiah Lutheran Church Building Fund or to Scouts Canada, 883 Notre Dame Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0M4, for camping or membership assistance.
