RICHARD (DICK) HENRY MARTIN December 11, 1924 - August 7, 2005 It is with great sadness that we announce Dick's passing. He leaves to mourn his four children, Judy (Fred Walder), Dianne (Bob Laidler), Kathy (Mike Hoban), and Rick (Lorraine); his grandchildren, Kelly (Jeff), Sheryl (Erick), Greg (Brandi), Stephanie (Andrew), Carol (Bart), Michelle (Peter), Byron (Katryna), Carissa and Aaron; seven great grandchildren and two sisters Marj Innes (Deloraine, MB) and Doris Beddome (Minnedosa, MB). Dick was born in Deloraine and raised in Medora, MB. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1942 and served overseas briefly until 1945. On his return, he married Muriel (Molly) Spencer, who predeceased him in 1987. Dick spent most of his working days employed by Sears Printing (later Miller Printing) until his retirement in 1989. Dick loved camping, fishing and sports. He also enjoyed fixing up things around the house and carpentry work. He was a long-standing member of the St. James Legion #4. But Dick will most be remembered for his sense of humour and his wonderful story-telling. He often said, Life is what you make of it and you might as well enjoy it , a philosophy he lived by. The family wishes to thank everyone who assisted Dick during his illness, including CancerCare MB, Palliative Care MB, Homecare, the staff on the fifth floor at Grace Hospital, as well as his many long time friends and neighbours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200-6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 10 at 2:00 p.m. at St. James United Church, 234 Parkview Street. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE 885-9715 Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolence at www.chapellawn.mb.ca

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I send sympathy on behalf of my Dad, John Learmonth formerly of Medora. My dad talked about your Dad, days of growing up together and life in Medora. I know it is hard to lose your parents, it is tough being orphans, in this world.. But age has some way of changing things.. God's Comfort be with you!
