Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY JEAN WALKER (nee FRAZER) May 30, 1928 - July 19, 2005 It is with much sadness that the family of Jean Walker announces her passing on July 19, 2005 in Richmond, B.C. She was 77 years of age. Jean was predeceased by her parents, John and Margaret Frazer, and her sisters, Gertrude and Margaret. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Ray; children, Bev (Doug Fyfe), Brenda (Stephen Hudson) and Kelly; her precious grandchildren, Jenna and Andrew; her brothers-in-law, Bill Shead and Hugh Archibald; and numerous nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Elkhorn, MB, Jean and her sisters were lovingly known in the family as the Prairie Flowers. Jean attended Normal School in Winnipeg where she received her teaching certificate. She met her husband, Ray, in Virden, MB, while in her first job, teaching elementary school. After moves to Abbotsford, BC and Flin Flon, MB, Jean and Ray settled in Winnipeg where she taught at Florence Nightingale, Montrose and Lord Roberts schools and raised her three children. When Jean and Ray moved to Richmond, BC in 1979, Jean worked as a teacher's aide and volunteered at local schools in Richmond. She was also a long-time volunteer in the Tuck Shop at Minoru Seniors Residence and was extremely proud of her over 20 years of volunteer service in the gift shop at Richmond General Hospital. Jean will be remembered by her friends and family for the many little things in her life - her warm, easy smile; starting every day with toast with butter and peanut butter; stamp collecting; always having time for a chat, she loved hearing the details of everyday life. She enjoyed playing Scrabble and making up the rules as she went along. Even when playing by the rules, Jean was unbeatable at cards. Cribbage and Rummy were always part of a Frazer get together. She loved to use her wits and was constantly doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She would have loved to have been a contestant on The Price is Right. The family would like to thank cousin Lee and friends, Eloise, Margaret, Nancy and Donna for their friendship, support and many acts of kindness. We would also like to thank doctors, Garrison and Houston and the staff of Richmond General Hospital for their care and compassion. Cremation has taken place and interment will take place in Winnipeg at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in the memory of Jean may be made to a charity of your choice.
