NORM COLEMAN Norm passed away peacefully on August 11, 2005 at the age of 75 years with family by his side. Norm leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 53 years Marje; sons, Carl (Jacquie), John (Wendy); and daughter Roberta; his three grandchildren, Paige, Jayme and Elizabeth; sister Doris; and brother Jim. Norm began his public works career with the Rural Municipality of St. Vital. He cherished St. Vital and his work that he gave unselfishly of his time to further any worthwhile project. With the amalgamation of St. Boniface he showed that same work ethic he had in St. Vital joining the staff of the two cities into a very experienced team. He was involved with the Windsor Community Club for many years in all areas from managing to coaching hockey and baseball teams. He was also Treasurer of the well thought of St. Vital Sport League. As President of the Windsor Community Centre, he negotiated a joint use agreement with the St. Vital School Board which enabled Windsor School to build its first gymnasium (Norm was quietly proud of this accomplishment). Again he became locally involved and was appointed to the Festival du Voyageur Parc Committee from the early 1970s to the late 1980s, this is where he learned the Joie de Vivre . He was passed historian of the Canadian Public Works Manitoba Chapter where he was often referred to as Pastor because of his before dinner graces. Norm enjoyed travelling with his family, skiing Sundays with daughter Roberta at Windsor Park Golf Course and skating regularly at St. Vital Park on the duck pond. He was an avid golfer at Windsor Park Golf Course. He enjoyed bird hunting and fishing with his sons, summers at the lake out on the boat with his faithful black lab Barney, working on the cabin, he had a passion for antique cars, working on a 1937 Ford. Norm and his wife Marje had many memorable walks in St. Vital Park. After retirement from the City of Winnipeg (35 years) he joined the City of Winnipeg Retirees Association and was appointed to the Disaster Assistance Board because of his knowledge of floodwater and culvert placement in rural areas. He then joined the Winnipeg Flying Club, where he became the most mature student to obtain his pilot's licence and CASARA (Civil Aviation Search and Air Rescue). These organizations kept him involved in aviation which he deeply appreciated. His three grandchildren, Paige, Jayme and Elizabeth were a great inspiration to him and brought him great joy. A celebration of Norm's life, a loving husband, dad and granddad will take place Tuesday, August 16 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Marks Anglican Church, 19 St. Mark's Pl (St. Vital). A private family interment will follow in the St. Vital Cemetery, the cemetery he once superintended. The family would like to thank Dr. Lylek from CancerCare Manitoba and Dr. Penner and the nursing staff on GA-4 at the Health Sciences Centre for their compassion.
