After completing High School in 1974, Shirley relocated to Winnipeg and graduated from Success Business College with honours in 1975. Shirley was first employed as a legal secretary for the law firm of Tepley and Pooley from 1975 to 1980. Shirley then made the transition to the position of Executive Secretary to the Treasurer of the Canadian Wheat Board from 1980 to 1989. Over the years, Shirley enjoyed many activities including baseball, cycling, cross-country skiing, golf and many other sports. Shirley's true joy was realized in 1989 with the birth of her first son Luke, followed by Damon in 1992. She excelled as a loving stay-at-home mom, nurturing and raising her sons with dad, Mike.
