RANDOLPH (RON) POWER 1925 - 2005 We are saddened to announce the passing of our father Ron Power on August 11, 2005 at age 79, peacefully after a brief illness with his family at his side. Ron was born December 23, 1925 in Preston, Lancashire, England, the second oldest of five children. Ron was predeceased by his parents William and Gladys, his brother Walter and his beloved wife and soulmate of 53 years, Pauline. He leaves to cherish his memory sons Steve (Bonny), John, Michael, Brian, Ron (Brenda); grandchildren Colin, Laura, John (Heather), Melissa, Karen, Marshall, Sabrina; great grandchildren Justin, Christopher, Jessica; and family in England, brothers Harold (Joy) and Bill (Dorothy) and sister Sylvia (Rex). Dad was a proud veteran having served his country as a very young man in Second World War in both the Royal Air Force (12th BN Yorkshire, Parachute Regiment) and the British Army. He saw active service in Europe and peacekeeping service in the Far East and Middle East and was awarded a number of medals and decorations. (War Medal 1939/45, France and Germany Star, GSM and Clasp South East Asia). Dad saw a large part of the world and had many interesting experiences. Dad continued service in his civilian life through the air reserves (RAF and RCAF), retiring in 1975 as a Master Warrant Officer from 402 Squadron RCAF Reserve (Canadian Forces Decoration). After the war Dad worked as a double-decker bus driver and conductor. He also managed to charm his way into Pauline's heart (his favourite passenger!) and they were married in England in 1949. In 1952 they decided Canada would offer a better life and future and they made their way to Winnipeg. Dad walked off the train and right into a job with Winnipeg Electric Company. There he spent his working life, retiring after 33 years as a supervisor in the meter reading department of the Greater Winnipeg Gas Company in 1985. With a family of five boys, Dad worked very hard to keep up. Dad was a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion (Prince Edward Branch No. 81) and served on the Legion executive and the board of the Canadian Legion Housing Foundation. In his legion days, he was quite the darts player winning several trophies. He was also a member of the National Malaya and Borneo Veterans Association and a past member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. In retirement, Dad enjoyed gardening, fishing, and the trips he and Mom made to explore Canada and the province. We will remember Dad as a loving, dedicated man, to whom family was everything. Dad took special pride in the accomplishments of his grandchildren. We will never forget everything Dad taught us and all that he gave us. Our thanks to the Concordia Hospital staff who comforted Dad in recent days and also to his friends at Kildonan House who welcomed and accepted Dad into their community. Sleep peacefully Dad and enjoy that perfect cup of tea with Mom, we will always love you Following cremation, a memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 18 at 1:30 p.m. at Kildonan House, 216 Edison Ave., Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations gratefully accepted in Dad's memory to Winnserv Inc, 101-960 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3G 0R4. KLASSEN FUNERAL HOME 1897 Henderson-North of McIvor-338-0331
