HELMER (SONNY) JOSEPH CHRISTENSEN Helmer (Sonny) Joseph Christensen after a lengthy battle with cancer on August 12, 2005, within the comforting presence of his wife Carol and children, Tim, Jamie (Michelle), Dan, Mathew (Nicole) and Tori, at the age of 69 years of Lundar, MB. He leaves to mourn his wife Carol of 38 years; sons, Tim (Lori), Jamie (Michelle), Dan (Lori), Mathew (Nicole); and daughter Tori (Reid); grandchildren, Samantha, Michael, Jacqueline, Jayson, Mason, Lane, Kaitlyn, Joseph, Mikayla, and Mark; sisters, Helen, Betty (Fred), Janet, Doris, Ruby (Joe), Val (Hal), Linda (Rick); brothers, Oluf and Dennis (Wendy). He was predeceased by his parents, Louise and Oluf; grandson Taylor; brothers-in-law, Albert and Clarence and sister-in-law Vicki. Sonny was born in Portage la Prairie on January 28, 1936. He married Carol on January 07, 1967. Together they lived on the Christensen family farm for a few months then moved into Lundar for six years after which they bought and moved to the Runolfson farm on September 1, 1974. There they raised five children and still dairy farm today, both of which Sonny took great pride in. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 16 at the Lundar Legion Hall with Melanie Kauppila officiating. Interment to follow in the Lundar Municipal Cemetery. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the Cancer Care Clinic of Winnipeg and to Dr. P. Czaykowski, Dr. Chowdry, Dr. D. Drachenberg and to nurse Kristie Donachuk for their care of Sonny. Also to Dr. Burnett (Amy Cook) and to the nurses and staff of the Eriksdale Hospital for their wonderful and tender care of Sonny during his stay in hospital.
