LAURA J. WHITE (nee MILNER) May 22, 1960 - August 13, 2005 Peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, Laura left this world to continue her spiritual journey. She will be lovingly remembered by her dear husband Peter; her two daughters, Elizabeth and Julia, who gave her so much joy. She is also survived by her parents, Bill and Sheila Milner; brothers, Bill (Nicole), John (Joni) and their children, Paul and Jessica; Auntie Cath Milner; Peter's sister Jennifer and Duane Collie and their children Sarah and Alex; many cousins, extended family members and little sisters, Laura and Lolanda, their father Lawrence and many close friends. Laura graduated from Kelvin High School in 1978. She continued with French studies in Grenoble France in her desire to become bilingual. With her interest in business and hospitality, Laura started her post secondary education. She entered the Faculty of Commerce, majoring in hotel management and tourism at at the University of Guelph. She was awarded The Alexander Campbell Hotel Management Award and graduated in 1983. Her career years were spent at Laventhol Horvath and Price Waterhouse. She gave up her career to be home with her family. Laura and Peter were married in 1990. Her greatest pleasure in life was being a mother to Elizabeth and Julia. She enjoyed a lifetime of summers at Minaki at the summer camp and more recently at their own cottage. Everyone who knew Laura witnessed the integrity of her character, the respect, the compassion and the kindness that she showed to all, particularly the less fortunate. Laura will also be remembered for her warm smile, her sense of humour, her wit and her intuitive insight of always knowing the right thing to say or do. Her strength and character is an inspiration to us all. The family would like to express their gratitude to all those involved in Laura's care. A celebration of her life will be held at St. George's Anglican Church, Grosvenor Avenue and Wilton Street on Thursday, August 18, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Laura may be made to a charity helping those less fortunate, CancerCare Manitoba, or a charity of your choice.

  • I just learned of Laura's passing. I was shocked and saddened. The few times I met her, she was kind, warm and welcoming. When we were new to the city, knowing no one-she showed up with her girls to help celebrate my daughters birthday, when my daughter knew no one here. It meant so much. I can't imagine the loss Peter and the girls are feeling. I just want Peter and the girls to know that there is someone else here thinking of you all; you are in my daily thoughts and prayers. My girls remember your girls-and they give their love too. - Posted by: Shannon Cliff (Acquaintance) on: Feb 03, 2006
