Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHERMAN LENZMANN 1909 - 2005 Herman Lenzman passed away at the Donwood Personal Care Home on August 14, 2005. He was born in South Russia on October 9, 1909 to Hermann and Emma Lenzmann (nee Schroeder), the oldest of the two sons and two daughters born to that union. His mother passed away in 1922, and in 1923 his father married Marie Heinrichs (nee Dick), a widow with three sons and one daughter. Of the three children born to this union, two grew into adulthood. In 1924 the family immigrated to Canada, eventually settling on a farm near Herschel, SK. It was here that he accepted Christ as his Saviour in 1930. That same year he was baptized and received into the membership of the Mennonite Brethren Church. For the next five years he studied at the Winkler Bible School where he met his future wife, Tina Wiens. They were married in 1935. From 1937 - 1939 they served as missionaries in the Belgian Congo. Their return was made necessary by Tina's poor health while in Africa. After a year of study at the Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills, AB, they relocated to BC in 1941. Here he taught Bible School until 1952, and pastored the Yarrow Mennonite Brethren Church from 1950 - 1959. Blessed with good health and a tremendous capacity for hard work, he also became a successful raspberry farmer during his time in Yarrow. From 1959 to 1967 they lived in Winkler, MB where he taught at the Bible School and pastored the local MB Church from 1962 to 1967. After a year of studies at Tabor College in Kansas, where he completed a degree program begun years earlier and continued intermittently, he pastored the Clearbrook MB Church in BC from 1968 to 1976. He completed his ministry in BC at the Broadway MB Church in Chilliwack, where he served as pastor to seniors from 1976 to 1981. After their retirement to Winnipeg in that year, he continued to preach and serve in a pastorial capacity on a part time basis. He was predeceased by his wife in 1990 and is survived by his youngest brother John Lenzmann (Erna); sister-in-law Johanna Heinrichs and five children, Mary Braun (John), Elvira Lysack (Victor), Luella Pauls (Henry), Edwin (Kathy) and Irene Warkentin (Edward); 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. The family wishes to express heartfelt appreciation and thanks to the staff at the Donwood Personal Care Home for the wonderful care and support provided to our father during his declining years. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 19 at the North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church, with a viewing at the church prior to the service. Interment will follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. If friends desire, donations may be made to Mennonite Brethren Missions and Services International (1310 Taylor Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3M 3Z6) or to a charity of their choice. Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord...that they may rest from their labour, for their deeds follow with them. Revelation 14:13. Arrangements by Friends Funeral Service: 339-5555.
