Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOREEN ELIZABETH CAMPBELL On Monday, August 15, 2005 after a lengthy illness, Doreen Elizabeth Campbell left a painful body behind and passed from this life into the arms of her loving Saviour. Leaving to mourn her passing is her beloved family, husband Lloyd; daughters, Carol (Steve), Gail (Ralph), Valerie (Ray), Janice (Morris) and Cheryl (Harry); stepchildren, Warren (Diane), Geraldine, Joyce, Evelyn, Susan (Kirby); numerous beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Deenie is survived by her sisters, Violet Edmundsen (Mark), Edna McMahon, Rhoda Kunzelman (Russell), Irene Corrigal and Rosemary Hodge (Lyle); and her aunts, Gertie Cosens and Grace Good. She was predeceased by her parents, Jens and Ellen Rose Sparvath; sisters, Leona Olsen and Beatrice Hibbitt; and first husband Steve Charison. Doreen was born in Gunton, July 29, 1926 where she grew up as a farm girl and attended Gunton School. After working in a chamois factory in Winnipeg, she married Steve Charison and together they raised five daughters, beginning in Geraldton, ON. In 1952, they returned to Gunton where they spent many years raising turkeys. After Steve's passing in 1980, Doreen married Lloyd Campbell and together they farmed in grain and cattle until recently retiring. Doreen was an avid cribbage player and tenacious Red Cross fundraiser. She was born into a musical family and enjoyed dancing and playing the piano. She was greatly loved by old and young alike, fun-loving and always able to see the bright side of life, and always putting others' needs before her own. Ready to share her laughter, Doreen touched people with her warm, compassionate, generous and forgiving ways. Doreen's gift of encouragement was expressed by her many visits to the sick, elderly, or grieving, even as she was sick herself. She prayed faithfully for people when she heard they were sick or having trouble. Treasuring times when others came to visit her, she often noted the details of the visits in cards. In the past 19 months while ill, she continued to endear herself to everyone she met, even befriending sick people in the Selkirk hospital where she was first diagnosed; and, she enjoyed a mutual relationship of love and respect with her home care workers. Doreen loved her garden and flowers and was a great cook, insisting that no one leave her home hungry. Hugs were very important to her, hugs of welcome and hugs of farewell. You knew when you were leaving her yard that you had better look back because she would be waving good-bye from a window. Doreen took great joy in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was always ready with a treat and took a personal interest in each one of their lives. She was their greatest fan. She liked to send cards, composing little rhymes to make people feel special. Unconditional love, integrity and faith will be her legacy which will continue to inspire those who knew her. The family would like to thank all those who helped her through her illness whether through personal care or the encouragement of cards, calls or visits. A special thank you to Dr. Kumar of the Winnipeg Homoeopathic Clinic, to S.W. Palliative Care, her nurses and doctors and to all who prayed for her and her family along the way. All those who loved her can consider themselves her honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to South West Palliative Care, 467-7118. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to MacKenzie's Funeral Home, Teulon. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held in the St. Peter Lutheran Church, Teulon on Friday, August 19 at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Claire Speary will officiate. Lunch will be served at the Gunton Hall.
