MARGARET LOUISE TATARYN (nee TOEWS) Peacefully, on August 16, 2005 after a brief illness, Louise Tataryn passed away at the Selkirk General Hospital. Predeceased by her husband Walter; son Paul; parents, Peter and Thelma Toews; sisters, Jean and Betty; brothers, Jack, Bill and Don. Louise's memory will be cherished by her sister Ethel and husband Clarence; her daughters Val and Doug Shale, Margaret and Darwin Donachuk; sons Stan and Patti, Tom and Inez. Also, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Mathew, Trina and Caelen Shale, Mag and Gov Carrigan, Tannis, Craig, Rebecca and Lilja Tataryn, Kristie and Alex Morydz, Aaron and Andrew Donachuk, and Jesse Baeza and many nieces and nephews. Louise was born in Stuartburn, MB on September 8, 1923 moving to Winnipeg during the war years to join the Canadian Army assigned to Communications at Fort Osborne Barracks. Mom left the army to begin her nurses training at the Selkirk General Hospital, at that time she met her husband Walter. Together they raised five children, with Mom remaining at home until 1967. She re-entered the nursing profession at the Selkirk General, retiring in 1985. Mom enjoyed many things in life. Her camping and fishing trips with Walter and the kids and the many places they travelled after their retirement. She also loved her knitting of mitts, socks and outfits for the many babies born and the treasured gifts for the children and grandchildren. After she moved into Lions Manor she enjoyed the company and friendships of her card playing and puzzle constructing friends. Independence was very important to Mom and she enjoyed hers to the very end for which we are thankful. She also valued the many friendships made as an active member of the church altar guild. Louise was also an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 42. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the St. Clements Altar Guild, 1178 River Rd., Selkirk, MB, R1A 4A1. Following Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at the St. Clements Anglican Church on Saturday, August 20 at 11:00 a.m. with the Venerable Godfrey Mawejje officiating. Honorary pallbearers being her dearest friends, Lil Bjornson, Anne Ward, Marge Hrenchuk, Alma Krewiak and Joyce Harbour. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.

  • Dear Valerie and Doug, Although it has been a number of years since we have been in touch, I still have fond memories of my summers spent near Lower Fort Garry, and being welcomed into your parent's home. Please accept my deepest sympathy to you and your siblings and extended family in the loss of your Mom. When you have time, please get in touch, as I am not able to attend the service on Saturday. Sincerely, Cheryl (Moore) Willis. - Posted by: Cheryl (Moore) Willis (Friend) on: Aug 19, 2005
