Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAKE KOWCUN February 19, 1917 - August 16, 2005 On August 16, 2005 with his wife at his side, at the Portage General Hospital Jake passed away at the age of 88. Jake was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Angela; three brothers, Ben, Rudolph and Billy; two sisters, Helen and Anne. Jake will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Hertha; his children, David (Shirley), Hilda (Jim) Hamm, Donna (Allen) Maly and Calvin (Linda). Jake will also be sadly missed by nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, many extended family and friends. Jake was born and raised in the Portage la Prairie area. He served with the military for three years, and following that, farmed in the Portage area and fished Lake Manitoba during the winter. He worked as a cook for the Manitoba School and as a maintenance mechanic for Motor Coach Industries for 17 years. Jake coached boys and girls hockey, he enjoyed bowling, curling, fishing and hunting. He was a jack-of-all-trades and could build or fix anything. Since retirement, Jake has enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, as well as many trips across Canada and the United States. The family would like to thank the staff at the Portage General Hospital for their kindness and support. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jake's name may be made to the Children's Wish Foundation, 350 St. Mary's Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3C 3J2. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 20 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. with interment and reception to follow.
