BARRY STANLEY ZEMLA February 12, 1955 - August 17, 2005 It is with profound sadness that the family of Barry Stanley Zemla must announce his passing, after a brave battle with leukemia. Barry was born in Winnipeg and lived his life in Elmwood, East Kildonan and Transcona. For almost his entire working life, Barry worked in the construction trade. His standard of ethics and quality workmanship were very well known and respected. He was able to start his own successful company (Zemla Drywall) in 1994 and for a few years before his passing had been proud to be a member of the Winnipeg Construction Association. He was happy to take on projects for members and non-members alike; his favourite being Gateway Kitchen Bath Centre, run by his great friend Mr. Art Pauls whose support, kindness and Christian spirit Barry was always able to lean on. Barry leaves to grieve his passing, his devoted wife and best friend Carolyn (Powell-Bonin); sons, Peter and Shawn; daughter Sherrie; mother Anne; brothers, Greg (Tracy) and Brad; sisters, Bev (Cris), Linda (Bruce) and Wendy, all of Winnipeg. Also left behind to cherish his memory are his mother-in-law and father-in-law Robert and Pauline Powell; sisters-in-law, Liz Epp, Jennifer Bowden and Daniela Powell; brothers-in-law, Cliff Powell and Gerry Bowden of Thunder Bay, ON and Toronto, ON, as well as many nieces and nephews on both sides of his family. Barry was predeceased by his father, Stan Zemla in 1995. We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to friends Dave and Darla Anderson for their help and unwavering support, as well as Charlie Phillipot and Al Reidke who could be counted on in so many ways. Our many thanks also to Dr. Pat Harris who Barry was so fond of and her staff at the Concordia Hospital Oncology Department for their kind and gentle care throughout his illness; Dr. Jerry Bergen, Dr. Morel Rubinger and his staff at CancerCare Manitoba and the staff of 3East at Concordia Hospital where Barry spent his last few days, for their respectful care, concern and family support. For anyone who so chooses, donations in Barry's name may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation Inc., 1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, R3E 0V9 and the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent Rd., Winnipeg, R2L 1X3. My deepest sympathies to the entire Zemla family. I was so saddened to hear of Barry's passing. With all of us growing up in Elmwood together there were a lot of great times shared between all of us. Mrs. Zemla, Bev, Linda, Greg, Wendy and Brad my heart goes out to all of you. Keep your memories close and take care of one another. Carolyn I just wanted you to know that even though since my illness I had not been cutting Barry's hair, I thought about him often. He was always full of so many stories, and I will always cherish all of our conversations. He will be greatly missed.
