Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMAXINE LILLIAN STRINGER (nee McMORDIE) It is with sadness, the family announces the passing of Maxine Stringer on August 16, 2005 at the age of 67 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Maxine was born February 6, 1938 in Birtle, MB to Bob and Rhoda McMordie. She lived in Birtle during her childhood and early teens and was known for her swimming achievements at local and provincial meets. She loved Birtle and returned often to visit and recapture the fond memories she had of her life there in the castle . Max lived in Brandon and then in Winnipeg where she worked for Canada Post... breaking new ground for women by becoming a Mail Carrier for a time. She met a handsome American Airman, the love of her life, Melvin Stringer in Grand Forks, ND. They were married on June 7, 1969. They lived in Winnipeg for several years where their two children Leanne (February 3, 1974) and Bobby (August 24, 1976) were born. As a family they moved to Fairfield, California in 1979. Maxine has always been an inspiration to all who knew and loved her... never afraid to try something new or embark on a new adventure. She loved to travel and along with Mel she made many friends through the raising and showing of their beloved Basenjis. Max fulfilled her dream of having her own business Maxine's Tax Service is the outcome of her determination and work ethics. Her son Bobby, after a time in the marines has followed her in the business. Maxine was thrilled to see her daughter Leanne graduate with her BSW (Bachelor of Social Work) and settle in Winnipeg. Multiple health problems have challenged Maxine for several years but regardless of how difficult it became, Maxine courageously pursued her life's dreams for adventure and travel. She will be remembered for her warm and loving personality, her sense of humour and her will to live every day of her life to the fullest. Maxine was predeceased by her parents, Bob and Rhoda McMordie; sisters, Sheila and Pat; father-in-law Will Stringer; brothers-in-law, Bob, Will Jr., Foster and Malcolm. She leaves to mourn her loving husband Mel Stringer; daughter Leanne (Jim Cooney) Amanda and Jayden; son Bobby (Krista Wong); mother-in-law Mary Stringer; sister Lynne and Cal Rempel, Dean, Mark and Ryan; sisters-in-law, Jean and Frank Watkins; Byron and Wayne; Othella and Ted Seavers; Keith, Kyle and Kevin; brothers-in-law, Richard Stringer and Cedric Stringer. She also leaves many nieces, nephew, cousins, aunt Verna McCall and many many cherished friends; beloved pets, Piper, Misty, Carrie and Pharohs. A memorial reception will be held on Tuesday, August 23 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre, 4000 Portage Ave. A memorial service will also be held in Fairfield, CA at a later date.
