JACK ALBERT REMINGTON Jack was born on a small farm in the Swan River Valley near Durban, MB, January 5, 1935. Predeceased by his parents Albert and Nora Remington, Jack is survived by loving wife of 47 years, Barbara. He leaves two children, Beverley of Pinawa with granddaughter Lindsay and David and his wife Suzanne of Winnipeg. Jack leaves behind two sisters Shirley Anderson of Brandon, Ruth Remington of Mississauga and brother Robert Remington and his wife Mary of Sudbury. Jack spent his youth in the valley until he moved to Flin Flon to finish his high school. He worked in the HBMS mine before continuing on to university. He met Barbara and they were married in Winnipeg on December 21, 1957. He graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1960, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Jack served nine years in the Canadian Armed Forces, first as an officer cadet while in university, then Lieutenant, and finally Captain. Four of his years were with RCEME Corps stationed in Kingston, ON and Calgary. He joined AECL, Whiteshell Laboratories, in 1964 as an Operations Engineer. He worked as Mechanical Engineering section head and then branch manager of Design and Project Engineering. He retired June 27, 1991, with almost 27 years of service with AECL. In his retirement, Jack held a number of committee positions both on the Pinawa Club, Curling and Golf sections for many years and was also an active player in both areas. He was heavily involved in the expansion of the Pinawa Golf Course from nine to eighteen holes, as secretary treasurer and his years of engineering project management at Whiteshell Labs ensured things stayed on budget. He later led the ad-hoc committee for the redrafting of the club constitution. Jack also served ten years as Campaign Manager for the Canadian Diabetic Association organizing local fundraising. At present he was serving as a Director of the W.B. Lewis Business Centre. Jack enjoyed life to the fullest and made the most of time spent with family and special friends, including his golf buddies Jerry, Wilf and Larry. A memorial service will be held at Pinawa Lutheran Church, Tuesday, August 23 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetic Association.
