KASMER JOSEPH HABINSKI With deepest sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, Kasmer Joseph Habinski, on August 18, 2005. Kasmer passed away peacefully in his 89th year, surrounded by family at his final place of residence, The Village of Tansley Woods Home Care Retirement Centre, in Burlington, ON. Leaving behind to mourn is his only daughter Wanda Pucci, her husband Flemming Stidsen and their son (Kasmer's only grandchild) Adam Kasmer Stidsen. Kasmer's memory will also be kept alive by his sister Adeline Rosmus (John); brothers, Julian, Adolph (Gloria), Ed (Johanna); and his sister-in-law Gertrude (Stan) Habinski; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Born on March 9, 1916, at Melrose, MB, Kasmer grew up in the area and attended elementary school. At age 17 he left home and worked as a farmhand in the Brunkild District. He then went to INCO in Sudbury, ON. While in Sudbury he joined the army during the Second World War and saw service in Canada, the United Kingdom and Europe. Leaving the army in March 1946, he obtained employment with the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires. During this time he met and married Helen Chenewski. The Corps sent them to Steep Rock Iron Mines where Kasmer worked as a security guard. In 1950 he returned to Winnipeg and joined the East Kildonan Police Dept. He retired from the force in 1976 with the rank of Sergeant. In 1978 he obtained employment with the Royal Canadian Mint Security Dept. Kasmer chose final retirement in 1985 to enjoy time with his terminally ill wife and his new grandson. Kasmer was predeceased by his loving wife Helen in 1986; his only son Stanley Joseph in March 2005; his mother Agnes in 1942; his father Joseph in 1970; sisters, Mary Campbell and Jean Sontag; and brothers, Stan, Louis and two infant brothers. A prayer service will be held for Kasmer at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 24. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, Cooks Creek, MB, on Thursday, August 25 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Martin Bradbury presiding. Interment will follow in the Parish Cemetery. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
