GLEN TOCHER With great love, we sadly announce the passing of our husband, dad, grandfather, brother, uncle and best friend, on Sunday, August 21, 2005. Glen was born January 21, 1932 in Parkman, SK, the third of seven children to Gordon and Marjorie Tocher. He was predeceased by his parents; two nephews and his dear sister Shirley Sawchuk. He leaves to mourn but cherish his memory, his devoted wife Katie of 51 years; his children, Edward, David, and Joanne; special family members, Laurie Tocher, Udo Kreis, and Linda Nelin; his grandchildren, Matthew, Nathan, Jordan, Brett, Ashley, Julie, Scott and grandpuppy Rocky; sister Iris (Walter) Magura; brothers, Grant, Colin, Barry (Eleanor) and Eldon; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary (Stan) King, Theresa White, Gloria Benoit, Joyce (Frank) Agostino, Edward (Bev) Meyer, and Ollie (Clarence) Zirk; many nieces and nephews, friends, neighbours, and co-workers that he acquired throughout the years. Being raised on a farm, Dad learned the value of hard work, education, dedication, and pride in a job well done. He met and married his sweetheart Katie in February 1954 and found in her the same values. Dad worked hard during his employment with the City of Winnipeg, retiring in 1991 after 27 years, still sharing a cup of coffee and stories with co-workers well into his retirement. During his retirement they became snowbirds, enjoying the warm southern climate. He also became an avid golfer spending many hours on the course. Dad's many golf and coffee friends will miss and cherish their time spent together. Dad survived a bout of cancer in 1993. It could not silence him even though it did take his voice. He remained a very social and outgoing person. He and Mom would walk together, but if for some reason Mom could not, he would walk in the mall to stay active and socialize. Of all his life's accomplishments the one that gave him the most pride and comfort was his family. Watching his children grow to be strong, capable, caring adults. But even more than that, Dad loved and adored his grandchildren. His eyes would light up and sparkle anytime one of them paid a visit or recalled stories of past visits with Gramps . Dad displayed great compassion, patience, generosity and an unfailing sense of humour throughout his life. Whenever an obstacle was in front of him he faced it head on. He was always ready with a smile, some kind words or a quick meal, whatever was needed, or just to tell you how beautiful you were! He was a quiet, soft-spoken man, who truly wanted only the best for those he loved. Respecting Dad's wishes there will be no funeral service. The family would like to thank the staff of CancerCare Manitoba, who treated our father with love and dignity. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to CancerCare or The Winnipeg Humane Society. How do you pay tribute to such a man? ... Dad, Gramps, we will always love and remember you and try to live our lives to make you proud! How truly blessed we were to have loved and been loved by you! REST WELL, DAD.
