VIOLA GLADYS COCKLE Born January 3, 1907 to Charles Smith Russell and Mary Lee Russell, in Roblin, MB, Gladys was the 13th of 14 children and the last surviving member of this pioneer family. She was predeceased by her husband Steve in 1980 and is survived by her daughter Bernice Pratt, son Robert Cockle and his wife Marlene. Gladys was Grandma/Nana to seven grandchildren, Cynthia Nicolson, Derek Pratt, Shauna Pratt, Kathy Pratt, Michael Pratt, Craig Cockle and Kevin Cockle. She also had 12 great-grandchildren. Throughout most of her life, Gladys's hands rarely lay still. When she wasn't busy making pickles or painting the rocks along her driveway, she was knitting sweaters, braiding rugs, sewing western-style shirts or tackling dozens of other projects with determination and skill. Above all, Gladys loved to garden and the following poem was one of her favourites. The kiss of the sun for pardon, The song of the birds for mirth, One is nearer God's Heart in a garden, Than anywhere else on earth. A small reception is planned for family and friends on Saturday, August 27. Please call 782-2906 for details.
