HELEN KATHERINE KLOWAK (nee ROMANIUK) Peacefully after a courageous battle, Helen passed away on August 19, 2005 with her daughter by her side at the Riverview Health Centre at the age of 93 years. Left to mourn is her loving daughter Dolci; grandchildren, Kimberley (Kevin), Blair (Shelly), Alia and Grant; great-granddaughters, Avery and Taylor; sister Adeline and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Bill in 1990; brothers, Nick and John; sisters, Annie, Jenny, Steffa, Elizabeth and Mary. Helen was born on December 27, 1911 in Winnipeg's North End. She completed Teacher's College and began her teaching career in Tolstoi, MB. From there she moved to the Interlake area, where she taught at various rural one-room schools. She met Bill in Poplarfield and they were married in 1943. She was a devoted teacher and enjoyed organizing many Christmas and Mother's Day concerts and picnics. She had an amazing memory of her students names even years after they had been taught. She kept many of their drawings and other souvenirs as they were very important to her. Helen loved music, singing, plants and animals. She finished her teaching career as Principal at Fraserwood School, retiring in 1972 so she could spend more time with her growing family. Many a weekend was spent cooking family dinners and making her famous perogies, cabbage rolls and borscht. Helen loved to travel and bring along her family. Most memorable were the trips to Los Angeles, Radium Hot Springs and Sault Ste. Marie. She cherished her trip to Rome where she had the opportunity to shake hands with Pope John Paul II. Helen was a member of the Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Fraserwood and looked forward to the annual Christmas carolling. Her trust in God was very strong and she shared her faith with everyone she met. Last year Helen left the family home to reside in Catherine Place, where she made new friends and life was much simpler with family close by. The family wishes to thank the staff her angels of Catherine Place for being so kind to Helen. Also special thanks to Sonja, Keli, Lionel, Donald and Father Vince at Misericordia Personal Care Home and the kindness of all the staff at Riverview Health Centre in her final hours. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 26 at 12:00 noon at St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, 505 Brewster St. with Rev. Fr. Richard Machura officiating. A private family interment will take place in Fraserwood Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Harry Chuckry officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or for Masses in Helen's memory. VICHNAYA PAM'YAT CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044

  • Please accept sincere condolences on behalf of the Pidsosny Family. We are sad to hear that Helen has fallen asleep in the Lord. Her devout faith, fervent prayers and acts of kindness are her legacy to us. We will fondly remember her hospitality when we visited with her at her home in Fraserwood. May God give her rest with the saints in a place of brightness, were sickness, sadness and sorrow are no more. May her memory be eternal! - Posted by: Subdeacon Vlodko Pidsosny (Friend) on: Sep 11, 2005
