SAMUEL MEYER ODWAK It is with great sadness, we wish to announce the passing of Samuel Meyer Odwak, at St. Boniface General Hospital. He was predeceased by his father Harry and his mother Celia. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 52 years Irene; his children, Richard (Darlene), Roxanne (Gary), Hershey and Alan. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Chad (Melanie), Josh, Lucas, Ricki and Avery. He will be sadly missed by his sisters, Faye (Sam) Stedman, Sophie (Laurie) Thompson; and brother Norman (Brenda) Odwak and their families. He will be fondly remembered, by his numerous nephews, nieces and friends. He was born in Winnipeg, May 13, 1930 spending his whole life and business career in the North End. He joined his father Harry at Minneapolis Fruit Company on Stella Avenue. After his father's sudden passing in 1959, he and his cousin Joe Freeman continued the business and subsequently moved to the corner of Euclid and Main to become California Fruit Market. There they became part of the fabric of the North End. He was known throughout the city as well as rural Manitoba as a fair and decent merchant. He is still remembered fondly by the many friends and customers he made while running California Fruit. Funeral services were held on Sunday, August 21 at Rosh Pina Cemetery. Pallbearers were Josh Odwak, Avery Nadler, Chad Schultz, Gary Nadler, Bruce Silverman, Sidney Thompson, Jeff Thompson, Harry Odwak and Neil Stedman. Honorary Pallbearers were Lanny Sloshower and Harold Silverman. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at St. Boniface Hospital MICU. Shiva was held at the home of Norman and Brenda Odwak, 1003 Queenston Bay. Donations, if so desired, can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Foundation.
