EDITH KURBIS (TRAPP)
Born: Jan 17, 1913
Date of Passing: Aug 25, 2005
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDITH KURBIS (nee TRAPP) 1913 - 2005 Peacefully in her sleep and in the presence of her son, Edith passed away in the early hours of Thursday, August 25 at Riverview Health Centre. She was predeceased by her husband August (Gus) in 1984; her sons, Ken and Lorne in 2001 and her four brothers and three sisters. She will be greatly missed by son Ernie (Gail); daughters-in-law, Olive and Anne; grandchildren, Craig (Barb), Karen (Peter Wiebe), Susan (Chris Jacques), Brent, Garth, Joann (Tim Makara), Tim (Carol), Gord (Chris Thompson) and Kathy (Randy Friesen); 14 great-grandchildren and numerous relatives and friends. Born on the family farm in Brokenhead, MB on January 17, 1913, Edith lived most of her life with the spirit and independence of a Christian pioneer. She married Gus in 1930 just as the depression was underway and they started a farm in Greenwald from scratch in 1935 with back-breaking labour as the two of them physically cleared 160 acres of swampy bush by hand. They operated a mixed farm there until 1947 when they sold and moved to Beausejour to enable their three sons to pursue their education. They purchased a restaurant in Beausejour and operated it for two years, after which they moved to Selkirk to operate the Kurbis Grocery and Coffee Bar until 1962. They then moved to Winnipeg where Edith became a successful salesperson at The Bay, Frederick's and Hurtig Furs until her retirement in 1978. Edith was always a devout Christian and was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church until recently when her health began to fail as a result of breast cancer. She was always tremendously proud of her family and responded eagerly to the frequent hospital visits by her son, daughters-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in the past few weeks. The family wishes to thank all who visited her and sent their best wishes, as well as the doctors, nurses and palliative care professionals who cared for her at home and at Riverview. A private interment service will be held by her immediate family at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens, and a memorial service will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 30 at Faith Lutheran Church, 1311 Dakota St. with Pastor Larry Ulrich officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Faith Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 1311 Dakota St., Winnipeg, MB R2N 1V8 in Edith's name. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
