WALTER DUDUK 1912 - 2005 Peacefully in his sleep, Walter Duduk, 92, passed away the morning of August 26, 2005 at Holy Family Nursing Home. He is survived by his wife of 71 years Monica; his beloved daughters, Orysia (Wasyl), Margaret (Sandor); and his grandchildren, Lubomyr, Eugene, Markian, Monica, Julian and Raphael. Walter was born on December 21, 1912, in the village of Bilcze Zlote, Ternopil, Ukraine, the youngest son of Michael and Pauline Duduk. Walter was a tailor by trade in Ukraine. While purchasing sewing supplies, he met the charming and beautiful Monica Maruschak, a clerk at the local general store. They were married in 1934. Shortly thereafter, the Second World War began, where he served the allied forces, but was captured as a POW and was separated from his wife. However they were reunited and blessed with their first daughter, Orysia, who stayed in Ukraine due to uncertainty caused by the war. After the Second World War, Walter and Monica immigrated to Canada in 1947 and made the north end of Winnipeg their permanent home. After being established in Winnipeg, they were graced with their second daughter, Margaret. The family was reunited in 1961 with Orysia's arrival to Canada. Walter continued his trade in Winnipeg, working as a tailor at Sterling Cloak. His gifts as a tailor were shared with neighbours and friends. He retired in 1972, where he would often speak of his love for Canada and the opportunities it gave him. Walter was a member of various organizations which would reflect his Canadian passion and Ukrainian heritage. He was a proud member of BUC, UCC, Prosvita, Ukrainian National Home Association, Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral and the Ukrainian Canadian Veterans' Legion - Branch 141. He continued his light-hearted demeanour, most of all enjoying summertimes on the veranda. Good bye Dido, Tato, Husband, Friend, Patriot. Vichnaya Pam Yat In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Help us Help the Children - Children of Chornobyl Canadian Fund: 2118-A Bloor Street West, Suite 200, Toronto, ON Canada M6S 1M8.
