ANN SALBY Ann Salby, dearly beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 13, 2005 at Mount St. Francis Hospital in Nelson, BC. Ann was born on Union Avenue in Elmwood Winnipeg, MB, the eldest child of Catherine and John Adamchuk. Ann lived the majority of her life in Elmwood and she attended Lord Selkirk School. During her early work life, she worked at many jobs, mainly as a seamstress and clerk in ladies' fashion. In the early 1930's she met a gallant musician, Richard (Dick) Salby, who strummed and joked his way into her heart. After a half-decade courtship they were married on November 5, 1938. Ann became a full-time mom after the birth of her first daughter Patricia (Tudy), who was followed three years later by daughter, Donna. Ann and Dick enjoyed many camping trips and other travels throughout Canada and the U.S. with their girls, often taking relatives and friends along. Donna contracted polio in the 1953 epidemic. Ann's unceasing devotion, dedication and hard work to ensure that Donna's quality of life was the best it could be, is appreciated by Donna (and the entire family) more than words can express. Even after Donna's illness, the family continued to camp and travel. In 1962, a year after the first of 4 grandchildren arrived, Ann and Dick purchased a cottage at Falcon Lake, MB and enjoyed hosting family and friends at the lake. In 1960 Ann joined Dick in running his business, the Artistic Framing Shop, until his retirement in 1971. She continued her work life as a home care worker until she retired in 1975. That year Dick had a serious stroke and Ann spent much of her time caring for him. When Dick was well enough, they continued with short trips, mainly to and from BC to visit Patricia and her family. Dick passed away in 1988. Ann continued to travel with her sister, Mary, friends and her daughters until 1997 when she moved to Nelson with Donna and husband, Ron, to be near to Patricia. Ann resided in the Kiwanis Villa until 2002. She then lived with Patricia until February 2004, subsequently moving into Mount St. Francis Hospital. Ann was known and loved for her eccentric style, sense of humour, feistiness and her devotion and loyalty to her family. She was a wonderful seamstress and crocheter and left behind many beautiful family heirlooms. She was a bizarre cook with many strange concoctions, but she was the master of the perogy and the cabbage roll. Ann was also known for the misrepresentation of her age which, dear reader, shall remain our little family secret. Ann was predeceased by her infant brother, Albert, her parents John and Catherine, her husband Dick, all her remaining siblings, Joe, Alec, Mary and Bill (Babe), and son-in-law, Ron Jeppesen. Left to enjoy memories of Ann are daughters Patricia (Ralph) Hansen and Donna Salby, grandchildren Catherine, Susan, Dennis and Douglas, great-grandchildren Jordan and Taylor, and nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and childhood friend, Helen Sennett. She was and always will be our mom, our Gram, our little great-grandma, our Auntie and our dear friend. We would like to extend our appreciation, love and thanks to Cheryl Foote and Glenda, Larry and Sarah Pasutti for their friendship, visits and support. We would also like to thank the Nelson Home Support workers and the Staff at Mount St. Francis Hospital for their care, support and dedication. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held in Winnipeg in 2006. If so desired, donations can be made in Ann's memory to the Legacy Fund of the Kootenay Lake Hospital Foundation, c/o Kootenay Lake Hospital, 3 View Street, Nelson, BC, V1L 2V1. Missing you, Mom. Have a safe journey.

My much loved Auntie Ann will be deeply missed by myself. She helped shape who I am today. Thanks for the memories of travel, great conversation, caring, love, pyrogies for lunch and the wonderful cookies baked at Noble Avenue. Thanks for the devotion Auntie, you hold a special place in my heart. Tudy and Donna thanks for sharing your Mom with our family.
