ADRIANUS (HARRY) STROET October 10, 1923 - August 29, 2005 After a lengthy illness, Adrianus passed away peacefully with his loving wife and family by his side at Concordia Hospital on Monday, August 29, 2005. Besides his wife Magdalena (Lena); he leaves to mourn three brothers, Nick, Piet and Cor; 11 children, Elizabeth (Eugene), Anita (Alan), Mary (Frank), Adrian (Louise), John (Susan), Richard (Charlene), Margaret (Doug), Silvia, Lorraine (Mike), Joanne (Ken), Jim (Shera). He was also blessed with 22 grandchildren and numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. Special thanks to nieces Elly and Ria Van der Zande for their dedicated support to us all. Harry was born October 10, 1923, the seventh of eight children of Johannes and Elisabeth Stroet in Hoofddorp, Netherlands. He immigrated to Canada in 1950 to work as a farmhand in Parkdale just north of Winnipeg. After one year he moved to St. Eustache where he met his loving wife of 51 years, Magdalena Jonker. In 1954 they moved into the upstairs of the cherished family home on Bonner Avenue. When his family outgrew their living quarters, Harry built them a larger home in North Kildonan where Mom still resides today. Harry was a construction worker for 13 years. He then became the Pound Keeper for North Kildonan and later the City of Winnipeg. He retired on disability in 1980. Harry's life revolved around his family. Dad always wanted to operate a big farm with his kids as his crew but had to settle for a large vegetable and flower garden at his home. Dad loved gardening, fishing and polka music. His efforts at marketing bedding plants, rabbits, perogies and wooden lawn ornaments are evidence of his entrepreneurial spirit. In the last couple of years, Dad enjoyed touring the neighbourhood on his scooter. Prayers will be said at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 31 at Holy Redeemer Parish, 264 Donwood Dr. A memorial service will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 1 at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 653 Knowles Ave., with Fr. W. Rebillaco officiating. Grandsons will be pallbearers. Flowers gratefully declined. If friends so desire donations may be made to a charity of one's choice or give the Gift of Life (blood donation) to the Canadian Blood Services. KYNSH FUNERAL CHAPEL 663-3541
