MURIEL BLANCHE BURRELL-MADSEN Aged 97 years Muriel will be lovingly remembered by her great-niece, Gina Kristjanson, husband Mark Kowalchuk and their son, Hayden of Roanoke, Virginia; and great-nephew Kris Kristjanson, wife Valerie and their son Kael of St. Thomas, ON as well as family and friends in Toronto, Winnipeg and Winnipegosis. Muriel was predeceased by her parents, Dora and Joseph; sisters, Agnes, Viva, Dora, Phyllis; and brothers, Harold and James. Muriel was born inon July 29, 1908 and was the eldest child of Dora and Joseph Burrell. She attended school in Winnipegosis and later moved to Toronto where she resided for many years. While in Toronto, she trained and worked as a medical secretary. In 1980, shortly after retirement, she relocated to Winnipeg to be closer to home ...Winnipegosis and family. She enjoyed trips to Puerto Rico, Australia, and Fiji. While in Winnipeg, she became an active member at Greenwood Place and enjoyed ringing bells with the McClure United Church Bell Ringers. She performed many concerts and made many friends. One of her favourite pastimes was attending plays at the Manitoba Theatre Centre with her cousin, Donna Caldwell and her husband Jim. Muriel could often be found upstairs with her friend, Rene Young. She always found the time to travel back to Winnipegosis to visit with her sisters Viva and Phyllis and her longtime friend Edna Medd. Four years ago, Muriel moved into the Riverview Health Centre. She was well cared for by the compassionate and professional staff. She looked forward to visits from her second cousin, Joan Warden, longtime friends, Susan and Wayne Tole, and her fellow bell ringer, Audrey Jones. Muriel will be deeply missed. A special and heart-felt thank you goes to Pat Yamada and her staff of 4-C . A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, September 3 at 2:00 p.m. in Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. (between Pembina and Waverley). In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Salvation Army. Muriel admired the work of the Salivation Army and the care they provided to the homeless and less fortunate.
