THEA MARIE PELIKYS With sons, daughters-in-law and grand-children by her side, it is with the deepest sorrow we announce the passing of Thea Maria Pelikys. Thea was born in Breda, the Netherlands on December 19, 1927 to Mary and Louis Antonissen. Spending her younger years in Holland she immigrated to Canada in 1953 settling in Portage La Prairie, MB. There, she gained employment at MDC, a disability centre. During the fall of 1956 she moved to Cariboo Falls where she worked in a doctor's office for some time. In 1959 Thea moved to Dryden. She married Jonas Pelikys in July of 1967, and together they had two sons, Emiel, and Stanley. She was employed at the Dryden Hospital for many years until her retirement. In Thea's leisure time she enjoyed antiques, doll collections, pets, and homemaking. Doing for others, and making them happy. Most important of all in her life was her family. Thea passed away on August 28, 2005 at Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg where she had been for three and a half years due to ill health. She was predeceased by parents, her husband Jonas in 1999, brother-in-law Piet Guerts, and Tante Sjaan Wagemaker. Surviving her are her sons, Emiel (Susan), Stanley (Karri); sisters Kitty (John) Van Ryswyk, of Dryden and Nel Geurts of Holland; brothers, Stan (Ria) Antonissen of Winnipeg, and Frans (Edna) Antonissen of British Columbia. Thea will also be sadly missed by her three grandchildren, Shaylyn, J.T. and Stephanie; numerous nieces and nephews also survive her. Very close friends mourning her loss as well are John Wagemaker, Carrie Smith, Reinhard and Sjaan Kircher, Toon Wagemaker, Netty and Peter Sottile and Clara Toft. Special thanks to Gerri Borowski, Tara-Lee Proctor, and Laurie Cerqueti for so quickly finding Thea a place in Winnipeg at Riverview Health Centre. To Laurie Cerqueti, Jackie Anderson and all the staff in all departments of Riverview, thank you for the exceptional care you gave our mother and for making her part of your family. Our family would also like to express their gratitude to all shifts in the final week of Thea's life for their compassion and support. Thanks also to Drs. Dahmer and Narrandes. A funeral service will be held Friday, September 2 at 12:00 p.m. in Dryden Community Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. John Mulders officiating. Interment to follow in the Dryden Cemetery. If friends so desire, donations may be made to Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg or to Alzheimer Society through Dryden Community Funeral Home, 249 Grand Trunk Ave., Dryden, ON P8N 2X3.
