TEDDY WIRE Theodora (Teddy) Wire passed away after a lengthy illness. Born in Winnipeg, Teddy was the only child of the late Sarah and Lew Polsky. As a young girl, Teddy showed an appreciation for the piano, taking lessons and winning several awards at the music festival. Teddy attended St. Johns High School and the University of Manitoba. After her schooling was finished, she worked at Public Finance (later Inland Trust) for several years. Teddy and Alvin were married on October 30, 1950. After their children, Mark and Shelley were born she was a stay at home mom for the next several years. Once the children were in young adulthood, Teddy began working at Shirley K Maternity at Polo Park. After a short period of time, she became the manager - a position she held and thoroughly enjoyed for 21 years. She retired in November 1991. After Melanie was born in October 1993, Teddy and Alvin babysat three times a week for six years. This was a job she thoroughly loved. During this time together, Melanie and Teddy developed a very special bond. Melanie has many fond memories of those years and her life has been enriched by the time spent with her grandmother. In all likelihood, the babysitting would have continued, but unfortunately her illness intervened - an illness which lasted for five years. A wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, we lost this beautiful person on Saturday, August 20, 2005. She is survived by her husband Alvin; son Mark (Bev) and their children, Melanie and Matthew; daughter Shelley (Jeff) and their children, Aliah and Michael. Teddy was the consummate wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved her family more than anything and lived to spend time helping them in any way she could. She always put others first, even during her illness. Her generosity and caring knew no boundaries. The family is grateful for the care, compassion, skill of Dr. Gary Krepart, Irene and the wonderful chemo nurses. Graveside services were conducted at Shaarey Zedek Cemetery on August 22, by Rabbi Alan Green and Cantor Gerry Daien. Honorary pallbearers were Gordon C. Pollock and Cantor G. Daien. Pallbearers were Joey Pollock, Rick Best, Michael Kay, Raymie Pollock, Grant Zipursky and Frank Wade. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations to CancerCare Manitoba in Teddy's memory would be appreciated. Shiva was private.
