SYLVIA RUDYK September 7, 1934 - September 1, 2005 Sylvia Hajduk Rudyk passed peacefully following a short struggle with cancer. Sylvia never had trouble making friends wherever she went, always cheerful, helpful and supportive towards those she met. Her passing will touch the hearts of many. Sylvia is survived by her loving husband Walter; her children, Harvey Rudyk, Kathy Heydari, Lori Rudyk and five grandchildren. Also surviving are Jenny Lazarowych of Calgary and Peter Hajduk of Toronto. Together with her parents and siblings, Sylvia Hajduk emigrated from the Ukraine in 1939, eventually settling in Winnipeg. Always clever and studious, Sylvia graduated college; then married Walter Rudyk in 1955. The young couple took up residence in Radville, SK relocating to The Pas, MB in 1959. Always an active member of the community, Sylvia also enjoyed a productive career in office support, eventually retiring from the civil service. Retirement years brought time for trips through Saskatchewan and Alberta to enjoy long visits with children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Sylvia's frequent visits to Calgary will be greatly missed by her sister and lifelong friend, Jenny Lazarowych. Her visits are treasured memories for her grandchildren Navid and Lua Heydari of St. Albert, AB, and Krystal and Kirsten Rudyk of North Battleford, SK. The highlight of her retirement travels were two trips to visit Lori in Kugluktuk, NT. Recently, Sylvia enjoyed time with her infant grandson Tajko Redden. The role of mother-in-law came naturally to Sylvia, always offering an open ear to Keyvan Heydari and Kieth Redden with an endless supply of email correspondence to Tracy Rudyk. Sylvia's ever cheerful nature will be remembered by all, especially her friends at the Golden Ager's Club, The Pas Horticultural Society and the Westminster United Church. Sylvia faced her illness with courage and grace. Her family created a time of loving care and support; a small a gift for someone who spent a lifetime putting her own needs second to those of others. A very special thank you to those professionals who came swiftly to assist Sylvia and her family in their home. Further thanks to Dr. Ahweng and the heroic medical ward nurses at St. Anthony's Hospital. Funeral details to follow. Nothing loved is ever lost, And she was loved so much.

  • Dearest Kathy, Navid, Lua, Lori, Keyvan and family, This is such a beautiful and sensitive tribute to a wonderful woman you knew as Mom. It brought lots of tears to my eyes. Wishing we could be there with you - but also knowing that your Mom is embracing you every step along this special path...and that now she won't ever have to let you go or even say goodbye. I'm sure she is "closer than your life vein"...Warm hugs to each of you... Love Terri - Posted by: Terri Flanagan (Friend) on: Sep 06, 2005
