VERNA JOANNE HALLONQUIST April 29, 1932 - August 28, 2005 Passed away peacefully after a long and difficult struggle with Multiple Sclerosis. Verna was predeceased by her father, Emil, her mother Elvira (Vera) and her brother, Wayne. Verna is survived by her sister-in-law, Gail Hallonquist; nieces, Leslie McKay and Kathryn Hermary (Marcel); and her nephew, John Hallonquist (Lynne). She is also survived by her Great-niece, Erin Hallonquist; her Great-nephews, Bryan Malo and Chris Hallonquist; her cousin Bill Nicolson (Elaine) and family in Richmond, BC; her cousin Bill Hallonquist's family (Ruth) and many other cousins and relatives in the United States. She will missed by her long time friends, Carol Baier (Ron) and family, and Pat Wallis. Verna was very proud of her Swedish-Canadian heritage. Before her illness slowed her down, she was an active member of the Vasa Order, Strinberg Sisters, and volunteered at the Swedish pavilion at Folklorama. She was a member of Crescent Fort Rouge choir for many years, and then joined the choir at Rosedale United Church. Verna loved a good card game, and enjoyed the sing-songs at Golden Links Lodge where she resided since 1997. Thank you to all the wonderful staff at Golden Links for their care and compassion during Verna's struggles. Also, special thanks to Iola Nichols for the hours of dedication and comfort she so graciously gave to Verna during their many visits together. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 8, at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave. (entrance on Aubrey Street) at 3:00 p.m. Flowers gratefully declined.
