ROBERT STEPHEN (BOB) MURRAY Peacefully on Thursday, September 1, 2005 Robert Murray, of St. Norbert, passed away at the Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg at the age of 82 years. Bob was born in Swift Current, SK on February 24, 1923 and the family moved to Portage la Prairie that autumn. Bob received his elementary and secondary education in Portage schools, then enlisted at age 18 in the RCAF. (His father and three brothers also served, brother Leo being killed while piloting a Catalina on anti-submarine patrol.) After training in Canada, Bob served overseas until 1945 with the Canadian Lion Squadron (#427), attached to RAF Bomber Command, then returned to Winnipeg where he married his fiancee Jean Peden and resumed his education in the Engineering Faculty of the University of Manitoba. He subsequently took a position with the Provincial Government, serving as an assistant engineer in the water control branch of Natural Resources. Bob and Jean raised three sons, Terry, John and James in their longtime home on Lemay Avenue in St. Norbert. Bob was predeceased by all other members of his family. He was a kind and generous soul with a keen sense of humour, a man who loved his family and friends. He will be sorely missed by his loving wife Jean; sons, Terry (Anita) of Chemainus, BC, John of Vancouver and James of Winnipeg; Laurie and grandchildren, Robert and Lee-Anna of Winnipeg; grandchildren, Kate and Sean of Mill Bay, BC; cousin Don Conant and nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff on GD3 at the Health Sciences Centre for their loving care and compassion. In compliance with Bob's wishes, a private family service will be held in Portage la Prairie. It will be held on Monday, September 5 at 11:00 a.m. at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. Flowers are gratefully declined. A tree will be planted and cared for in memory of Bob by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel who are in care of arrangements. 1-204-857-4021
