D. SYBIL GARBUTT (nee FISHER) With sorrow we announce the peaceful passing of our Mom and Granny, Sybil, on August 31, 2005 at Riverview Health Centre. She was predeceased by Fred, her husband of 52 years; and her siblings, Buddy, Harry, Wyn, Maud, and Ossie. Mom is survived by her children, Keith and Ava of Edmonton, Wendy and Doug, Bill and Margo, Gord and Shirley, and Pat all of Winnipeg. Granny will be deeply missed by her grandchildren, Kristen, Heidi and Chris, Scott, Carrie, Todd, Shane, and Tayt. Sybil was the first of her family to be born in a hospital on January 9, 1920. She was raised and attended school in and around Hazelridge, MB. Sybil and Fred met while attending dances and sporting events throughout the Municipality of Springfield. They were married in Winnipeg in 1942, and raised their family over 44 years in Dugald, Transcona, Fort Rouge, and Charleswood. Her days were filled with caring for her family making delicious meals and mouth watering breads, cakes, cookies and pies. Many have enjoyed her many handicrafts including quilts, sweaters, socks, mitts, slippers, embroidery, and crochet. Bowling, cards, gardening, reading, crosswords and travelling were other favourite pastimes. She was known for her kindness, generosity, wit, sense of humour, and beautiful blue eyes. Mom suffered a major stroke in 1998 and resided at Riverview for the past five years. It was there that she discovered her remarkable talent for painting that surprised and amazed those around her, providing a lasting legacy for years to come. The family wishes to thank the staff of CD3 at Riverview, and in particular Angel, Evelyn, and Kelly for their care and compassion during Mom's last hours. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Charleswood United Church on Tuesday, September 6 at 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow. The service will be preceded by interment at Chapel Lawn at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to CD3 at Riverview, Operation Eyesight Universal (1-800-585-8265), or a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE 885-9715 Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolence at www.chapellawn.mb.ca
