ZENTA CHULKA Peacefully on Sunday, September 4, 2005 at the Lac du Bonnet Personal Care Home, Lac du Bonnet, MB, Zenta Chulka passed away at the age of 99 years. Zenta was born in Jaun Gulbene, Latvia on July 19, 1906. She immigrated to Canada in August of 1927 arriving on the S.S. Lithuania. Zenta settled on a farm in Lee River with her husband John. She was a very hard working woman. Her house and flower garden were always immaculate. Her home was open to everyone and many a meal was served to guests. Zenta worked on the farm alongside her husband in mixed farming and cattle for the sale of milk. Later they grew different varieties of potatoes and strawberries. Zenta faithfully attended the Lutheran Church of the Cross when she moved to Lac du Bonnet. Zenta was predeceased by her husband John on February 5, 1986 and her sister Herta Wanag of Winnipeg in June of 1994, also in Latvia her brother, sister and a nephew. Zenta is survived by her stepson Elmar Chulka (Dzidra) of Gimli and their children, Sandra (Douglas) and two great-grandchildren of Prince George, BC, grandson Arthur Chulka of Ottawa, nephew Gunnar Dziny (Joan) of South Surrey, BC, niece Arija Aboltina and numerous nieces and nephews all of Latvia. Also surviving is a Goddaughter Ruby James of Winnipeg. The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and support staff of the Lac du Bonnet Personal Care Home for their thoughtfulness and kindness while she was in their care. A special thank you to Helen Stine and Ruby James for taking time to tend to Zenta's needs. Funeral services will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Cross, Lac du Bonnet on Thursday, September 8 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Don Reimer officiating. Interment will follow in the Lee River Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers will be Arvid Dancyt and Arnold Urban. Pallbearers will be Jack Lamb, Gunar Postnicks, Glen Romanow, Karlton James and Melvin Niemi. If friends so desire memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Lac du Bonnet Personal Care Home or to the Manitoba Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3E 9Z9.
