EDWARD CONWAY PAGE (FAST EDDY) 1936 - 2005 It is with deep sadness and sorrow we announce the passing of our father, Grandpa and friend, on September 4, 2005, after a very brave and courageous fight to the end with cancer. Ed was predeceased by his wife Sally in 2002. Left to cherish his memories are his son Donald (Krista); daughter Deborah (David); grandchildren, Andrea, Kirsten, Kaitlyn and Alexis; sister Lorna Hymers (Allan); special friend Natalie, his second family the whites and many friends and associates. Edward was born in Wilmsbow, England where he resided until his family came to Canada in 1947. He grew up in Winnipeg and attended Gordon Bell High School. School was where Ed discovered his love of sports. He broke and held several records for all track and field events. Sport's were a lifelong love of Ed's including hockey, tennis, soccer, lacrosse and track and field. Every sport he played he excelled at, even making the cover of STAR WEEKLY for hockey as a goalie. After graduating from high school in 1954, he started his life in sales. His first sales job was at D. Ackland Son LTD, as manager of the hardwood lumber and plywood department. This is where he met the love of his life and mother of his children, Sally. They married in 1959. Ed's sales career took him to the opening of his own sporting goods store REBEL, in 1970. Here Ed could use his love and knowledge of sports and his sales ability combined together. Ed opened his store in Windsor Park where he and his family resided. Working and living in Windsor Park made Ed a leader in his community. He was president of Winakwa Community Club for two terms. He helped the club with coaching all sports teams along with his wife. After seven years he decided to move his sales career to different industries like Corby Distilleries and Wonder Bra, before he found his favourite sales job in home renovations. Ed was exceptionally good at the building aspect. He had a fabulous reputation and was very well respected in this industry. He received many awards for his generosity to sports and the community and even from the city of Winnipeg. He was always involved in some sort of sport, even coaching soccer well into his 60s. Ed's most heartfelt love, besides his family, was his cabin at West Hawk Lake. He purchased his love in 1970. He made many, lifelong friends, including all of his deer. He watched his children and grandchildren grow up there and enjoy this piece of serenity. It was the last place for him to be. He fulfilled his dream of spending the last few days of his life there, with his family by his side. Many thanks to Dr. Schroeder and staff at the Health Sciences Centre, CancerCare, Palliative care nurses and friends who helped out. We love you and miss you so much. Rest in peace, Dad. Cremation has taken place. Service will be held September 10 at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Family Parish, 778 Archibald St. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Ed's name to CancerCare. Funeral arrangements trusted to LeClaire Brothers Funeral Home. 775-2220.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • My heartfelt condolences to Don and his family at this time. My husband and I considered Ed one of our best friends. We will miss his smile, his laugh, his sense of fun. Ed loved to travel and in June he thought about going to Portugal until I told him he had to go through Toronto, he wanted no part of that. We love you Ed and miss you!!! - Posted by: Sandra White (Friend) on: Sep 09, 2005

  • Sorry to hear of the passing of Mr.Page. I always enjoyed running into him, and his sense of humour. I last saw him at the Riels dinner. I remember as a kid him alway's getting me the hockey stick from Rebel that my dad thought was too much money$$ Good thing they don't have to buy sticks today! My thoughts and prayers go out to Don and Debbie and family's. Doug Pascoe and family - Posted by: Doug Pascoe (Friend) on: Sep 09, 2005
