WALLY HOOPER 1930 - 2005 Wally Hooper died peacefully at Rockyview General Hospital, Calgary on Tuesday, September 6 at the age of 74. He is survived by his son Jim of Maple Ridge, BC, his daughter JoAnne (Don) and beloved granddaughter Emma of Kelowna and sister Lucille (Gordon) of King City, ON. His wife of 44 years, Irene, died in 1999. Wally was born in Regina in 1930 and moved to Winnipeg in 1939. He was an outstanding football player at Kelvin High School. His passion for football continued, he was a player, then manager and president of the four-time national champion St. Vital Bulldogs senior football team. He worked in finance, construction and mobile home sales and then ran his own mobile home service firm for 15 years. When he retired in 1991, he volunteered to work five days a week with Habitat for Humanity in Winnipeg and later in Calgary, where he moved in 1995. Altogether he put in 18,548 volunteer hours and helped build 118 homes. Wally was a generous and devoted husband, father and grandpa. If friends so desire, they may donate time or money to Habitat for Humanity. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 10 at 3:00 p.m. at Leyden's Chapel of Remembrance .
