Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGENEVIEVE ROWED Genevieve (Gen) DuVal Rowed passed away on September 3, 2005 in Lake Country, BC. She was born on November 27, 1913 in Talas, Turkey, one of 5 children, of missionary parents, The Reverend and Mrs. Herbert Irwin. She is predeceased by her husband Henry (Harry) Newton Rowed and her son-in-law Dr. Lance Richard. She leaves behind her daughter Daphne Richard and son-in-law Jamie Browne of Kelowna, BC; and son Scott Rowed and daughter-in-law Welcy of Banff, AB; and grandchildren, Lara (Richard) Cumberland (husband Brad), Greenwich, CT, Tory Richard, Calgary, AB, Kylie Rowed, Canmore, AB and Genevieve and Henry Rowed of Banff. Nieces, nephews and cousins reside in many different countries around the world. Gen attended school in Winnipeg and graduated with a Master's Degree from the University of Manitoba. She taught at an international school in Athens, Greece, returning to Canada just prior to the Second World War to do scientific studies at the national laboratory in Ottawa where she met her husband. Their passion for the outdoors took them to Jasper National Park in 1946 where they lived for many years. Harry became a renowned mountain photographer and Gen hand-painted in oils many of his famous black and white photographs for clients in every corner of the globe. Gen found beauty and solace in the simple things of life. She was happiest on a long hike in the alpine, on berry-picking excursions, swimming in an ice cold, spring-fed lake and caring for her huge vegetable gardens. She could identify every plant, tree, animal and bird and showed great admiration and respect for all living things around her. She loved her beautiful log homes, first on the shores of Lake Edith in Jasper and later overlooking the Bugaboos near Radium, BC. Gen and Harry thoroughly enjoyed their many winters on the west coast of Mexico with family and good friends. Unfortunately, the last few years were not as kind as Gen struggled with Parkinson's Disease. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. M. R. Penny and the wonderful staff at Lake Country Lodge for their continuous special care during her illness. No service is planned at this time. Her ashes will rest with those of her husband, high in their beloved mountains and their spirits will forever roam the snow-capped peaks together.
