JOHN WILLIAM HOLOD August 12, 1915 - September 1, 2005 It is with sadness, the family announces the passing of John Holod at the age of 90 years. John was predeceased by his wife Agnes on April 5, 1987. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Gail (Gary) Neduzak of Elma, MB, Darlene (Lew) Hebert of Ste. Rita, MB; grandchildren, Darcy (Roger) Simcic, Winnipeg, Tanis Neduzak (Alvin) Tourond, MB, Terine (Dan) Hughes, Winnipeg, Travis Hebert (Jocelyn), Winnipeg; his beloved great-granddaughters, Raelynn and Savana Simcic; sister-in-law Katie Kipling (Holod); nieces and nephews, Martha Winter, John Jr. (Jack) Gutoski, Mel Holod, Kas Holod, Carol Bell, Bernard Holod, Reg Holod, Brenda Campbell, and Randy Holod. As a young man John worked as a bush wacker and was known as the Sandman . During the depression he travelled the country hopping box cars looking for work. When the war broke out he enlisted in the army. Before he married Agnes in 1944 he was always seen riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. Most of his career was spent as an auto mechanic, Dr. of Mechanics as he called himself. He retired from Simon Day as a maintenance engineer in 1980 at the age of 65. He loved the great outdoors, fishing and hunting with his brother George, nephews and friends. He was also a member of the Game and Fish Association of Manitoba. In his final years he lived at Blue Bird Seniors Complex. There he enjoyed a game of pool or a cup of coffee with the old folks. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him. He was a strong willed man who always did things his way and remained in control of his life until his last day. Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 17 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Ave. with a reception to follow in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Arthritis Society. FISHERMAN'S PRAYER I pray that I may live to fish until my dying day, And when it comes to my last cast, I then most humbly pray, When in the Lord's net and peacefully asleep, That in His mercy I be judged big enough to keep.
