WILLIAM (BILL) FERMAN WHITE It is with deep regret that we announce the death of William (Bill) Ferman White after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis on Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, at the age of 80 years. He leaves behind to mourn his passing his wife of 58 years, Theodora (Doris) White; son Bob White (Phyllis) and daughter Melinda Barr (John); granddaughters, Jennifer, Julie and Emma, all of Winnipeg. Also, his sister Catherine Kelly of Glace Bay, NS and sister-in-law Miep Seymour (Merv) in Burlington, ON. Bill was born in Glace Bay, NS in 1924. After graduating from high school, he gave up a university scholarship to join the army during the Second World War, seeing action in Italy, France, Belgium and Holland, where he met Theodora who was to become his wife. He left the military after the war and moved to Brantford, ON. Rejoining the military in 1956, he served with the RCHA in Gagetown, NB, in Hemer, Germany, and in Winnipeg. Bill retired from the army and took a position in sporting goods for the T. Eaton Co., retiring for good in 1990. Bill's passion was his family and his joy was found in his granddaughters. A very gregarious person, Bill loved to travel and to chat about his adventures with family and friends alike. He also enjoyed friends associated with the artillery, Eaton's Retirement Club and with the Royal Canadian Legion, spending time on Saturdays at Branch 100 with his son. Funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, September 10 at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Marguerite Bourgeoys Chapel at 17 Wing, CFB Winnipeg, 2235 Silver Ave. at Whytewold Road. Inurnment will follow at Assumption Catholic Cemetery, Queen of Heaven Mausoleum, 3990 Portage Ave. Our family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staffs of the Riverview Respiratory Program and the Grace Emergency and Intensive Care Units for their compassion and for the wonderful care they provided Bill.
