FLOYD E. LOVELACE With deep sorrow and love, the family announces the loss of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Floyd, on January 12, 2007 at the age of 88. He leaves his loving wife of 62 years, Kae; his sons, Rick (Judith) and Glenn (Shannon) and his daughters, Bonnie (David) and Sharon. He will be remembered forever by the grand-children who adored him so much, Debra (Brydon), Heather (Charles), Michael, Sarah (Paul), Collyn, Keith (Melissa) and Leigh; and two great-grandchildren, Alex and Beau. Floyd is also survived by his brother Chid and his sister Dorothy and many nieces and nephews, all important to him. He was predeceased by his brother Ed and his sister Connie, and his parents, Syd and Edith Lovelace. Floyd was born and raised by his railroading family in Souris, MB, moving with them to Winnipeg in 1935. He began railroading with the CPR in 1939, leaving to serve in the war shortly after. Floyd spent the next years attached to the RAF as an air gunner in North Africa, where in the midst of the mayhem, he made lifelong friends that he continued to value to this day. He returned to Winnipeg and his fiancée Kae on Christmas Day 1944, and they were married a month later. Floyd went back to the CPR, retiring as an engineer in 1983. From then on, he devoted himself to the top priorities of his life, his home and family, friends and neighbours, his community and church, early morning swims at the lake, and his many interests in sports, gardening and keeping everything in good repair. In the past few years, he especially enjoyed golf, curling, and meeting his longtime buddies for coffee and conversation. Floyd was a man who looked forward to every moment of every day with joy, approaching all he did with enthusiasm and determination. Every challenge was fun, and giving up was never an option. His positive and caring attitude and sense of humour won him many devoted friends who will miss him dearly. He was first in line whenever extra hands were needed, and he found much personal satisfaction in contributing. Floyd was a gift to us all. The family would like to thank the staff of the intensive care unit and third floor west at the Concordia Hospital for their kind and loving care in his last few days with us. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Concordia Hospital Foundation, 1095 Concordia Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2K 3S8. A memorial service will be held at Immanuel United Church, 755 Golspie St., East Kildonan on Monday, January 15 at 1:30 p.m., reception to follow in the church.
