WILFRED RANDALL (RANDY) SCHMEICHEL On Tuesday, January 3, 2012, Randy passed away in peace at the age of 50 years. Remaining to forever cherish Randy's memory are daughters, Melissa and Kimberley; son Mark; brothers, Darrell, Ron and Don; and parents, Doris and Rudy Schmeichel. Randy was born in Winnipeg but spoke often of his fond memories of Porcupine Plain, Saskatchawen, where he spent his summers on his grandparents farm. Randy's teenage years were spent in Winnipeg, graduating from Grant Park High School where he excelled in football. He went on to achieve his goal of becoming an Officer with the Winnipeg Police Service in 1984. Randy always spoke highly of the Service and all the memories of his partners and coworkers. Sitting in the front row, beaming with joy, sat Randy as he was able to see both daughters graduate with University honour degrees, and his son graduate with high standing from Manitoba School for the Deaf. In December 2011, Randy was proud to announce he had graduated from Red River College with honors in Managerial Development which he had been working on part-time during his employment as a Security Manager for W.R.H.A. Randy lived life to the fullest, enjoying frequent trips to the US with the family, hockey tournament trips, as well as snowmobiling and skating on the outdoor rink. We will miss Randy more than words can say; however, we know that just like when he was with us, his passing could not keep him from watching over us. Randy's Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2012, at 3:00 p.m. in Calvary Temple, 400 Hargrave Street with Pastor Jim Barber presider. In lieu of flowers, donations in Randy's memory may be made to Society for Manitobans with Disabilities, 825 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3A 1M5.

  • I'd like to share my condolences with the Schmeichel family, Rudy, Doris, Don, Ron, Darrell, and Randy’s children. I first met Randy at his parents' place in Toronto (1985). He and his brothers had a special bond and razzed each other like young brothers do. Randy was the kind of guy people loved to be in a room with as there was always so much jesting and laughter. He loved his kids, his whole family, and he loved life. My heartfelt compassion goes out to all who have been touch by this loss.

  • I am thankfull I had the chance to visit Randy in Porcupine Plains, the memories of driving in that convertable, horseback riding and the huge harvest moon, are priceless. We went to junior high, and the same church. Spent alot of time with our families growing up. Playing football on Sunday afternoon, plus whatever trouble we could get into. There are so many memories, but most of all what a special friend you were, you were like another brother to me. You will be missed by many, sleep well my friend, till we meet again, love ya Corrie

  • I join with innumerable others, in passing on deepest condolences to Randy's family. To me, this includes his extended family of school chums, co-workers, and even casual acquaintences. He certainly always would leave a lasting, positive impression no matter what his personal circumstances. Such a good listener, a great friend.
