MATHILDA BERRY (nee SCHINKEL) Peacefully, with family by her side, our dear mother Tillie Berry, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at the Victoria General Hospital. She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her children Sandra (Richard), Donna (Brian), Patricia, and Kevin, grandchildren Kellie and Sean, sister Irma Pilkington, sisters-in-law Sophie and Jean Schinkel, numerous nieces and nephews, and special friends Mary McKee and Marilyn McWilliams. She was predeceased by her husband Ken (2002) of 53 years, her parents Michael and Ottilie Schinkel, and ten siblings. Tillie was born in Friedensfeld, MB where she was baptised and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Her first job was as a housekeeper in Brunkild before a move to Winnipeg where she worked at Canada Packers until her marriage. She held various part-time jobs during the years of raising her children. Throughout her life, she was a hardworking, Christian woman devoted to her family. Mom's homemaking skills were evident in her baking and cooking, everything from her grandson's favourite pancakes to large family dinners. Over the years, she enjoyed playing cards, doing the Jumble, keeping up with world events, knitting, crocheting, sewing and canning. At Faith Lutheran Church, she attended Bible Study classes, sang in the choir and taught Vacation Bible School and Sunday School. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life to be held in the summer with private family interment at that time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. Heartfelt thanks to Deacon Kris Taylor of Faith Lutheran Church for her prayers and visits of comforting support, and the wonderful, caring 4A South staff at Victoria General Hospital. We were truly blessed and our lives enriched by our mother's caring love. Mom, we will love you forever and keep you daily in our hearts. Sweetheart, you were the salt of the earth'. Auf Wiedersehen.
