ELIZABETH LUINING

ELIZABETH MARGARET LUINING (HODGINS) With great sadness we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of Betty at 80 years young on April 6, 2012 at St. Boniface Hospital. She was predeceased by the love of her life Bob (1979), and her son Rick (1995). She is survived by her daughter Gail of Vancouver, BC along with several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, extended family and many close friends. Betty was born in Transcona to Louise and Thomas Hodgins. Following her marriage to Bob in 1956, the two adventurers moved to California until the early 60's when they returned to Selkirk to join the family dairy business. In the years that followed she supported Bob in his career at the dairy, raised two children and through her caring, compassionate, generous and fun loving nature was always at the heart of her extended family and large circle of friends. Later in life she was surrounded and supported by her dear friends at Knights Villa in St. Vital. For their kindness, her family is deeply grateful. In keeping with mom's wishes cremation has taken place and a private interment for family will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2012 at St. Clement's Church Yard, Selkirk, MB with a gathering to follow at Smitty's Restaurant. "Rest in peace mom, you will be deeply missed. I love you, it was an honour to be your daughter."

  • My fondest memories of Elizabeth Luining were my visits with Gail. On the way to Gull Lake, we would stop to see her in Selkirk. She always made sure we had enough food for the weekend. She was always kind, generous and soft spoken. Even when those 'pit-stops' came late at night. Be in Peace Gail, Rest in Peace Elizabeth. With Love KA

  • Mrs. Luining was a kind and lovely lady. I spent many happy hours at the family cottage at Gull Lake as Gail and I were good buddies when we were young teens and alas have lost touch. Mrs. Luining was a generous and thoughtful person and always made me feel most welcome. My condolences to Gail at the loss of her mom.

  • My condolences to this family. Although I didn't know Elizabeth personally, I know that her daughter, Gail, loved her mother very much and helped her in many significant ways to improve the quality of her mother's life especially when she became ill.

  • My sincere condolences to Gail and all her family. Betty and I were good friends while working at The Bay so many years ago. We attended her wedding to Bob and kept in touch for many years. Alas, we lost touch probably because of both our lives becoming busy with family etc. I hold our friendship as a pleasure indeed. Some friends we never forget and Betty is right there on the top of the list, in spite of so many years going by. My very best to all, Verna Johnston
