

IDA CALNITSKY Ida Calnitsky, 93 years of age, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 19, 2012, at Victoria General Hospital. Ida will be greatly missed by her daughter Nancy, sons Ed (Linda), Phil (Charlotte), grandchildren David, Naomi, Shauna, Brent, Tara and Josh Calnitsky, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband David Abraham Calnitsky in 1955, and by her son Ben Calnitsky in 1996. She was also predeceased by her parents, Harry and Sarah Oberman, sister Edith Katz, and brothers Dave, Lou, Al, and Jack Oberman. Ida was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. After the untimely death of her beloved husband, she provided a nurturing home for her four young children, surrounding them with warmth, guidance, encouragement and laughter. She lived her life with courage, vitality and optimism. Ida faced life and its adversities with determination and an independent spirit. She adored her grandchildren and they were greatly impacted by her presence in their lives. Funeral services were held on Sunday, April 22, 2012, at Etz Chaim Synagogue with burial at Shaarey Zedek Cemetery, Rabbi Larry Lander and Cantor Tracy Kasner Greaves officiating. Pallbearers were David Calnitsky, Brent Calnitsky, Josh Calnitsky, Neil Schipper, Daniel Schipper, Michael Tennenhouse, and Gordon Steindel. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Drs. Al Pacin, Michele Evans, and Bryan Sharkey for their care and compassion. Heartfelt thanks goes to Kathy Ritchie of W.R.H.A. Home Care, caregivers Judith Mitchell and Remi Ballesteros, and Sarah Reid, Carol Liable, Lori Pawluk and staff of the Simkin Centre, as well as the nursing staff and caregivers at the Victoria General Hospital.
