

ELEANOR JOHNSON (nee POWZUN) March 20, 1944 April 20, 2012 After a very brief but courageous battle with cancer, Mom passed away on Friday, April 20, 2012, with her family by her side. Mom will be deeply missed and her memory cherished by her loving husband, Barney and by her children, Cheryl (Blair), Raymond (Leona) and Russell (Wendy), and by her grandchildren, Saveja, Monique, Kaela, Amanda, Scott and Riley. She also leaves to mourn, her sister, Betty Both and her brother, Brian Powzun. She was predeceased by her parents, Mike and Mary Powzun. Mom was born and raised in Finns, MB. She attended school in Finns and in grade nine moved to Gimli to finish high school. On March 3, 1962, she married the love of her life and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past year. Mom stayed home to raise her children and was actively involved in all their activitiesGimli minor hockey, 4H, brownies and etc. When she entered the workforce she started as a receptionist with Dr. Oakley, dental assistant with Dr. Rajwani and a real estate agent with Interlake Real Estate. Mom and Dad also operated the Gimli Taxi for a number of years. Then they started their own company, Bar-El Ent, and contracted to Allied Van Lines. The next 18 years were spent crisscrossing Canada and the U.S. together making numerous new friends from N.F.L.D. to the Queen Charlotte Island and as far north as Whitehorse, YK. After retiring from the Van Line she kept busy with the census, enumeration and cleaning homes and cottages. Mom very much enjoyed their vacations to the Dominican Republic. She was an avid walker, loved biking, and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. REST IN PEACE MOM Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held in the future as per Mom's wishes. The family would like to extend their appreciation to all the staff at the Health Sciences Centre, CancerCare MB, Gimli Community Health Center and Dr. R. C. Patel and Dr. S. V.
