PAUL KLIEWER

PAUL KLIEWER April 25, 1914 - July 3, 2012 Peacefully, on July 3, 2012, Paul Kliewer, at the age of 98, passed away into the loving arms of Jesus, at the Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home. Paul was born in Stokow, Poland. He was the second child of Kornelius and Hulda Kliewer. As a young boy, and living on the farm, he learned many important life skills that he carried forward into his everyday life. Paul met Martha Bartel in Germany after the end of the Second World War and together they immigrated to Canada in 1949. On March 4, 1950, dad and mom were married in the South End (Central) Mennonite Brethren Church. Together, they bought their first house on Hespeler Avenue and a few years later they moved to Glenwood Crescent. Dad worked as a printer at the Christian Press and then at Riedeneibner. He also worked at Wilmar Windows, and retired there at the age of 65. However, dad never had idle hands and found himself back at Wilmar until retiring again at the age of 72. Dad was active at both Central Church and later at Elmwood Church, where he especially enjoyed the senior's group. Due to failing health, dad and mom moved to Bethania Haus in 2005 and then to Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home in March 2012. Paul Kliewer is survived by his loving wife Martha, their two children Henry (Ellen), Dorothy (Winston), grandchildren Candice (Randy), Cheryl, Aaron, Connie (Jon), Reena, great-granddaughter Alisha, brother-in-law David Bartel, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, stepmother Eleanor Kliewer and brother David. The family would like to thank the staff at Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home for their loving care. A celebration of Paul's life will be held on Monday, July 9, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Elmwood Mennonite Brethren Church, 145 Henderson Highway in Winnipeg, with viewing prior to the service. Interment in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Donations in his memory may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee.
