

SHEILA MARGARET MAURER (nee GUY) In her 100th year, Sheila died peacefully on July 3, 2012, after having lived a full and active life. She was born October 13, 1912 in Buckinghamshire England and was the youngest of eight children and educated in Plymouth, Devon. Sheila worked in publishing firms in London, Methuers Evans Bros. She married Karl Maurer in September 1939. Sheila came to Canada in 1952 with son Martin to join Karl in Winnipeg. Sheila was secretary to the Headmaster of St. John's Ravenscourt until 1965, and then taught in the faculty of Education at the University of Manitoba until 1976. She received a diploma in Speech Arts from Toronto's Royal Conservatory of Music in 1967. Sheila was a member of the Manitoba Drama League and was active in theatre in the province. She helped run the Drama Club The Penthouse Players , at Stony Mountain Penitentiary for 10 years. Sheila was also active in the Canadian Speech Association, Studio Two, a Readers Theatre Group and the Shoestring Players. She also performed volunteer work for Meals on Wheels, The Village Clinic and E.S.L. classes, and was a member of St. Paul's Anglican Church in Fort Garry. Sheila is predeceased by her son Martin and husband Karl. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Anglican Church, 830 North Drive, on July 24 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to a charity of your choice.
