• We will miss the times and talks that we had, will miss the guidance and mentoring, will miss the fun and the laughter. Our sympathies to Sharon and Tracey – Ernie will be missed, but never, ever forgotten.

• Hard to believe that Ernie has passed on, among the memories I mentioned earlier, the trip where he and Jerry hitchhiked across Canada! That was an absolute thrill for Jerry and he talked about it long before they went and shared the stories and cherished the memories all of his life! I don't know whether Ernie realized that trip had such an impact. Ernie was like a "brother from another mother" Always so special to Jerry. Never miss an opportunity to share a nice memory. • Ernie was a charming high energy guy, who loved to play scrabble or shoot pool with my husband, and some of those games went on til FOREVER. They never knew when to call it quits. I remember a time when I did not know where my husband was, and then the phone rang, it was Ernie, wanted me to look up a word in the dictionary-they were playing scrabble! Ernie and Sharon were well suited to each other, I envied their closeness. Whatever they did it was with enthusiasm- especially when Tracey was on the way! The day of their wedding, Sharon dressed to knock Ernie's socks off, and she did. It was emotional times when she broke down and got choked up - we all did. The reason? She saw an eyelash on Ernie's cheek, and that meant you were in love. Still brings a tear to my eye! Ernie made an impact on everyone he met, did nothing half way, and clearly put up the fight of his life the past 2 years, to stay with his wonderful family. I know he is in heaven playing scrabble with Jerry and George, when he isn't fishing or golfing! Sharon you are a strong loving woman and he was blessed to have you in his life. Not many wives would have the courage or take the time to call personally to share the news of Ernie's passing. I really appreciated chatting with you. Take care

• When we first moved next door to you folks in Charleswood, Ernie popped by to introduce himself... I'd truly never met anyone like him... he had the most energy I'd ever seen & I thought to myself,this guy is insane... but once we got to know you both, we came to know that Ernie was an amazing person with a passion for everything... and you both were true friends... I think of the day when Ernie was putting the stone work around the flower beds in front of your place... I admired Ernie's work and at that point, he made Todd complete our flower bed with stone work... I know he will never truly leave you Sharon and his beloved daughter Tracey... The love and passion he has for his family shows what type of person he was... he will be truly missed...

• Dear Uncle Ernie, The messages by Sharon and Tracey about you were so beautiful and poignant. How wonderful a father and husband you were. In the last many years I have seen the Ernie who was so fiercely loyal to our whole family, never failing to be here for every single special occasion, no matter how many transfusions it took. From the marathon length video of my wedding exactly 25 years ago, you were right there with the state-of-the-art equipment, body-checking organists and professional photographers to make sure it was the best video it could be, because you always made sure to give your best to your loved ones. For Erin’s and Karen’s and Kally’s wedding, where Sharon had to hold you up to video, and for Mark’s only last summer, where we had to look for you between courses when you had to nap, you were there. You defied all odds to walk your lovely daughter down the aisle and pulled all stops to get every possible one of us to Tracey’s big day in Halifax. You are a role model of loyalty I will always hold up to my family to follow. But the Uncle Ernie I knew best and treasure most fondly is the vibrant, brash teenager, my big brother/uncle, who lived with us on Mark’s top bunk and who we were allowed to jump on and pummel with all our might to wake you in time for university. You made me climb the oak tree to the very top, you arm wrestled me daily and made sure you checked my bicep was getting bigger, just so you could dump me out of the lazy boy and pin me to change the TV channel. You teased me constantly that you were always going to be stronger and smarter, making me try even harder to live up to your expectations. You made the best creamy mashed potatoes and were the only one who could boss me around. I thought you looked like Elvis and wanted my little girlfriends to see you. My favourite picture is still the one where you’re wearing Ross’s big backpack in our back yard before you left us to hitch-hike across Canada. I was so glad when you dumped your date, Glenda, for your friend’s prettier and sweeter girlfriend with the flip hairdo, Sharon... and then married her. And you turned into an upstanding, successful businessman, a devoted husband and fine father, both respected and adored. So true to your character you were courageous and determined to the last. And recently, I even saw your clever wit give way to expose the tender, sentimental, serious side of our loving Ernie that we always knew was there. I hope you are in a Langara-heaven. Love, Stacey

• I well remember the day when Ernie was born, and his dad was so proud and made sure all the neighbors on Isabel St. knew the good news! He was such a good looking little boy and as a little girl I was pleased when his Mom allowed me to push his carriage along the street. Later at 4 or 5, he became the little nuisance who always tagged along behind Ross and wanted us to play with him. My sympathy goes out to his wife and family, and to Margaret and Ross in their time of grief and loss. Sincerely, Lily, Victoria, BC

• Always a funny guy with a weird sense of humor. Will never forget Ernie not knowing his left from his right. Sorry that he is gone, but I can just picture Ernie, Jerry and George shooting pool in heaven and causing a ruckus.
